Bloom Series

As a woman I have felt the weight of societal and cultural beauty expectations and have never felt I measured up. The Bloom Project was born out of my desire to take back my own sexuality and beauty out of the hands of others. It is unfortunately common for women to feel shame over the natural size, shape and look of their vulva’s. There is “no normal” when it comes to the physical world and female genitalia are no different. By exploring the beauty of folded fabrics and combining a range of colours, patterns and textures of textiles I am teaching myself and others to embrace vulva variety and ultimately themselves.

I started with the goal to create 25 abstract portraits but the project took on a life of its own. Over the course of 4 months I created 84 textile vulvas with the intention to display them on mass showing a color graduation from light to dark, warm to cool. The Bloom Project is not meant to be an accurate physical representation but rather a celebration of the female form.
